Hi peeps.

I'm going to attempt to make one of these tonight but I can't find my
late wife's recipe so I'm going to wing it from memory.

If it works, I'll post it here but I'd be happy to receive any advice
from any of the "experts" on't group!

Cheers, David C.

Well, not strictly corned beef hash, but back in my sailing days, Saturday
night in a pub was followed by a midnight nosh. 1 big saucepan..........add
a tin of baby potatoes quartered, a tin of baked beans, and a tin of corned
beef 'crumbled' in. Heat and serve with a large whisky ;)

And if it tastes as bad as it sounds have another couple of whiskies :-)

What you have described is very similar to what is known in our house as
pinakalty. No-one knows how to spell it so say it how it looks.
Layers of sliced corned beef, sliced boiled potatoes, onions and baked
beans. Beef stock. Finish off with a layer of sliced potatoes on top and
grate some cheese over that. You can add Worcestershire sauce to taste.
Cook it in the oven for about an hour at about 200.

Whisky is wasted on this, drink beer.

LOL Panackelty is ( afaik) a North Eastern dish. Traditionally , the
ingredients were anything left in the house the day before
payday....layers of potatoes and onion with sausage and/or corned beef
and/or slices of bacon. Don't remember Granny giving us either whisky or
beer though... <g>

Crikey that brought back memories. We used to have it often when I was a
child. Sometimes, mam would put some black pudding in for a treat.

fry a mess of onions, then add pre-boiled potatoes chopped up and then your
crumbled corned beef along with a crumbled stock cube and some boiling
water. Just heat it through until it's a lovely mush.
enjoy

Thanks to you all for the culinary advice.

Too late of course (this time) but I;; remember for the future.

Basically I followed your advice's, but I forgot the onions....
( None in the house, must buy some soon.)

I heated to crumbled corned beek in a frying pan, added some chopped
tinned tomatoes, some baked beans & about 1/2 a tin of small potatoes,
sliced thinly.

I forgot to use any seasoning apart from a liitle Worcestershire Sauce
& some dark soy.

The mix was indeed spooned into a glass dish, with a packet of instant
mash, ( I know it's cheating but the box has been on the shelf for
"years" & need to be used..) on top, with a little cheddar to taste.

It stayed in the oven whiile I watched Top Gear & for a little longer
too. ( App. 1 1/4 hours.)

The remnants are in the fridge, with extra cheese & soy, + some
paprika, awaitng the microwavbe in a day or too.

Thanks again for all your advice & suggestions, I really must get some
onions, maybe even a pack of frozen slices, for stock..
